What's the Buzz? 9/11/06

Congratulations to Frank Thomas for setting a franchise record for the A's with his 6th consecutive game with a home run and is just 2 shy of the MLB record. It's been a great September for the Big Hurt, hitting 8 home runs with 19 RBI in just 10 games. Barring the annual injury, which doesn't look like it's happening, he'll be a great power source down the stretch.

In other news...

Big day for Marlins OF Cody Ross who hit 3 homers tonight with 7 RBI. He becomes only the second player in Marlins history to hit 3 homers in one game (Mike Lowell is the other guy) and he also ties the franchise record for RBI in a game with 7 set by Gary Sheffield in 1995. He's been splitting time with Joe Borchard since Jeremy Hermida went down for the season, but if he can build some momentum with this, the job should certainly be his.
Also for the Marlins, with his 24th home run of the season, Dan Uggla tied the major league record for home runs by a rookie second baseman in a season. The record was set by the Yankees' Joe Gordon in 1938. Something tells me he's going to crush that record and solidify himself as the NL Rookie of the Year.
Word out of St. Louis is that Jim Edmonds has been experiencing fewer headaches, but still has no timetable for his return...he should remain benched; David Eckstein took some swings and may be back by the end of the weekend, and Jason Isringhausen has been ruled out until late this weekend at the best. Hopefully the late release of the news didn't hurt too many people in setting their lineups for the week.
Just to let you know where you Edmonds owners may be headed, it was announced that Brewers 3B Corey Koskie is done for the year as he hasn't been able to fully recover from post-concussion syndrome. Following in the footsteps of Mike Matheny...
Some day to day guys here: Willy Aybar (upset stomach), Adam LaRoche (hamstring), John Smoltz (groin), Nate Robertson (ribs), Kris Benson (strep throat), Gabe Gross (hamstring), Coco Crisp (finger/shoulder), and Rod Barajas (back).

Short slate of games...light news day today...
