Trade Central and Analysis

Elliot Madison is on vacation this week, so I'll be handling this section for the week.

Not much action going on lately, but there are a few little things that may be good to know...

1. The Cincinnati Reds acquire pitcher Sun-Woo Kim and cash from the Colorado Rockies for future considerations

Another mediocre arm for the Reds as they try to make a final push for the wild card. Kim's last spot start on Sept. 6th wasn't bad -- 5 innings with 2 ER -- and he may get another opportunity at some point. Chances are, though, that he will remain in the bullpen as a long reliever. I don't recommend him even if he does get another start for the Reds.

2. The Milwaukee Brewers claim reliever Chris Spurling off waivers from the Detroit Tigers

The Tigers were done with him, having designated him for assignment, but the Brew Crew, in need of another arm in the pen, picked him up. He'll take over the spot vacated by the injured Matt Wise and should have about as equal value in NL only leagues. And by that, I mean none.

3. The Oakland A's claim pitcher Jerome Williams off waivers from the Chicago Cubs

The A's are just keeping themselves covered down the stretch. Williams was a spot starter for the Giants and Cubs who never really seemed to make an impact. He should stay in Oakland's pen for mop up duty and may get a spot start if they become super desperate. No fantasy value here.
