What's the Buzz? 5/8/06
Quick day today....very little baseball going on. However, you'd probably like to know that...
Giants OF Randy Winn left today's game in the 5th inning after fouling a ball off his knee. He should be considered day to day, but will probably sit out Tuesday.
The MRI on Chris Burke came up negative, so he should be available as soon as his 15 days are up.
There still hasn't been a decision on whether or not to put Jose Contreras on the DL with back and hip problems. He threw a side session today and seemed to be fine, but he still might miss Wednesday's start for the White Sox.
An official decision will be made in the morning, but it looks like Ken Griffey, Jr. could be activated Tuesday. This should be interesting to see what the Reds do with Ryan Freel. It doesn't seem right for them to give him back 2B with Brandon Phillips still playing well. He could see some bench time for a little while. Atleast until the next injury. **cough cough**Austin Kearns**cough cough**
The Royals designated Joe Mays to AAA today, but he probably won't report. He could be finished. Dunzo.
The word on Sidney Ponson is that he has a muscle strain in his right elbow. He will miss his next start, but as the Cardinals don't need a 5th starter again until May 20, he could avoid the DL and come back to pitch then.
Also for the Cards, they activated Larry Bigbie from the DL finally, which means we have a three man platoon with Bigbie, So Taguchi and John Rodriguez.
The Braves put P Horacio Ramirez back on the Dl. He will now make his scheduled 3 rehab starts before coming back as originally planned. They activated him over the weekend strictly on an emergency basis.
Apparently, Placido Polanco's injuries are worse than expected and will have his back checked out by doctors this week. They are hoping to have him avoid the DL, but that is unlikely.
And finally, as expected, the Angels put Darin Erstad on the disabled list and activated Juan Rivera.
Catch you next time...
