What's the Buzz? 5/6/06

More and more injuries to report on here, so I'll start with Yankees OF Gary Sheffield who was scratched from the lineup again today. He will probably also miss Sunday, but should be available to play against the Red Sox on Tuesday.
Making his first start since coming off the DL, Ryan Doumit played first base for the Pirates today. With Craig Wilson slumping, it makes sense to get Doumit some regualr at bats to get his timing back.
Blue Jays catcher Greg Zaun may go on the DL with a calf injury despite the MRI coming back negative. If he goes down, Jason Phillips should back up Bengie Molina for a little while.
Braves OF Andruw Jones left today's game after hurting his back taking a swing. He is day to day, but don't be surprised to see him sit tomorrow's game out.
Mets starter Victor Zambrano left today's game with discomfort in his elbow. It's the same elbow that he had problems with when he was first dealt to the Mets, so it's not much of a surpise....especially with the way he has been pitching all year. The word from Rumorsville is actually two words....well, names, I guess...Tommy John. This doesn't look good.
The Mets also placed pitcher John Maine on the DL with inflammation in his finger. This doesn't look good for the Mets as they will have to go with Jose Lima on the mound for what will be too long a time.
Royals OF David DeJesus will have his return delayed even more as he just tweaked the other hamstring. it should be another week or so before he will be ready to come back. Kerry Robinson will get some more time out there in his place.
Nationals catcher Brian Schneider is day to day with a strained hamstring, but look for the team to bring up Wiki Gonzalez rather than use Matthew LeCroy for the job.
To get away from the injuries for a moment, look for Nate McLouth to be patrolling CF for the Pirates for most of this week. Neither he nor Chris Duffy have done anything to separate themselves from the other, so pretty much, it's just McLouth's turn. It would be nice if one would get hot and claim the job, but a breakout doesn't look like it's coming anytime soon for either.
Astros OF Willie Taveras has now stolen a base in each of his last two games. If he can string a few more together, he could be a nice source for steals. You might want to see if you can get him cheap right now before he puts a streak together.
Decent back to back performances from Phillies Ryan Madson and Gavin Floyd. Unfortunately, for one of them, Cole Hamels is coming...
And finally, it doesn't look like Red Sox OF Coco Crisp will be coming back ahead of scheduled as some reported. The X-rays revealed that the fracture is not fully healed and he will probably be out for most of May. He will not be back in 10 days. Hopefully we can meet in the middle, but a late May return is most likely.
