What's the Buzz? 5/3/06

I'll start it off with White Sox OF Pablo Ozuna tonight. Pablo who? Pablo the guy who had the game every little kid dreams about having when he hit the game tying HR in the bottom of the ninth and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the 11th. I'd say good job, but I have closer Eddie Guardado in my primary league and he was the one who served up the meatball.
Marlins OF Reggie Abercrombie has been picking it up lately and it couldn't be better timed with Joe Borchard joining the team. They'll stick with Abercrombie while he's hot, but it could turn into a position battle once he cools down.
And speaking of the Marlins....someone get me Joe Girardi on the phone. Brian Moehler continues to stink and yet Jason Vargas is the guy they throw in the pen. What's worse is that they're going to give him another shot and if that doesn't work, then they're going to give Ricky Nolasco a shot. Ugh. Just get Vargas back in the rotation guys.
Francisco Cordero has pitched 2 2/3 scoreless inning in his last 3 outings now for the Rangers. Watch for him to get an opportunity to close games again in a couple of weeks. For the short term, it's still Akinori Otsuka's job.
The Angels have sent down catcher Jeff Mathis. Manager Mike Scioscia apparently prefers Jose Molina and newly called up Michael Napoli makes for a better backup. Mathis will atleast get to play everyday and he may be back later on in the year. If you have him , though, you should find a replacement immediately.
Cardinals 3B Scott Rolen expects to start on Thursday. He has beaten down the bronchitis finally. Also, P Mark Mulder had a precautionary exam on his back in St. Louis today. He said he was experiencing some pain but the doctor cleared him to pitch. You should keep an eye on this one.
So the White Sox are not going to put Jermaine Dye on the DL, but he will probably miss the next 3 or 4 games. He should be reserved immediately.
Texas reliever Antonio Alfonseca will be out for a few days with an ankle injury. Nothing serious; he is considered day to day.
So Angels 1B Casey Kotchman announced today that he's been suffering from mononucleosis for the last 7 months. This would certainly explain his slow start and lackluster play. Hmm. And I thought he was just bored. If he continues to stink it up he could be sent down or placed on the DL. If you drafted him I'm sure you can send him hate mail directly to the Angels clubhouse.
Expect to see Tampa Bay SS Julio Lugo and 3B Aubrey Huff back in the lineup this weekend, possibly Friday night. Time's running out to trade Ty Wigginton. Once Jorge Cantu returns, his time as a starter will be over.
The Royals placed 1B/DH Mike Sweeney on the DL today and called up Justin Huber to take his place. With Doug Mientkiewicz locked at first, Huber will have to compete with Matt Stairs for time at DH. It would be great for the Royals to use Huber. He has so much more upside than Stairs.
And finally, the Roger Clemens sweepstakes have apparently opened with a minimum bid of 12 million from the Houston Astros. Clemens will take his time to make a decision. He won't be around atleast until June.

Cole Hamels is coming...

Catch you next time...
