What's the Buzz? 9/13/06

I have to apologize to all you Freddy Garcia owners out there (including my wife). While sitting in fron tof the computer I saw that Garcia had a perfect game through 7 innings. When he was at 7 2/3, I walked around and grabbed the remote to see if ESPN was giving us a little bonus coverage. Against my wife's wishes (she didn't want to jinx it by watching), I turned it on and BAM!!! Adam Kennedy hits his single into center and breaks up the whole thing. I have been thoroughly yelled at, so this is my formal apology to you all. I'm sorry. Freddy did not toss a perfect game/no hitter because Howard Bender turned on a television set.

In other news...

Some real bad news in Minnesota as Francisco Liriano was removed from the game in the third inning after "hearing a pop" in his elbow. Any playoff hopes the Twins had must be pinned on someone else. He's going to be examined and put through a barrage of tests, but more importantly, Liriano is done for the year. It looks like a little more action for Matt Garza. He should get another start or two. Scott Baker anyone? Anyone?
A change in the condition of Red Sox starter Curt Schilling as he has now been ruled out for his scheduled start on Saturday. He's had the lat problem and now he's complaining of a "sluggish" arm. He may be shut down for the season. No wonder David Ortiz is spouting off like a moron. His whole team seems to have just quit on the season.
A few pitchers out there that are on the mend; here's a list of those who will make their starts this week: Chad Billingsley LAD, Pedro Martinez NYM, Eric Milton CIN, John Smoltz, ATL, and Nate Robertson DET.
Some day to day guys also worth noting: Mike Cameron (foot), Jay Gibbons (back), Ken Griffey Jr,. (toe), Brad Radke (shoulder), Adam Everett (groin), Andy Pettitte (elbow), and Mariano Rivera (elbow).
That Mike Stanton pickup is looking better and better as it was announced today that Giants closer Armando Benitez will miss the remainder of the season with inflammation in his right knee. Keep Stanton active. The Giants still think they're in this one.

Some nice highlights today, but not much on the fantasy news front...

Catch you next time...
