What's the Buzz? 7/12/06

Uh oh!!! A little drama from the All Star Game after all as the Cubs announced they might have to put pitcher Carlos Zambrano on the 15 day DL with an elbow injury. Turns out, while Zambrano was doign an interview near the batting cage, White Sox coach Joey Cora accidentally hit him in the pitching elbow with a fungo bat. Zambrano did not pitch in the All Star Game and was taken to a hospital for x-rays, which came out negative. He will be examined again on Wednesday and a determination will be made then. As if there was a need to intensify the hatred between Cubs fans and White Sox fans.
If you're still able to make lineup changes for yourself this week, you should know that Mets SS Jose Reyes could actually be back in the lineup for Friday's game. He took some stiches in his pinkie just before the All Star Break, but he says the swelling has gone down. I'm sure it will be a game time decision, but definitely expect to see him this weekend.
Bad news for you Manny Ramirez owners out there as a report surfaced that Manny has a small tear in the medial meniscus in his right knee. There has been no MRI apparently so for now it's just specualtion. Wait and see how this unfolds. It's either the organization's way of leaking some sketchy info so people stop ripping him for always sitting out the All Star Game or it's a major reason to trade him in your league for some sort of value. Stay tuned....
The Royals activated Mike MacDougal from the 60 day DL today and will probably put him back in the closer's role immediately. It's either that or watch Ambiorix Burgos suck for another few games and then put MacDougal back. Either way, I'd pick him up if I were you.
And finally, how about that Astros/Devil Rays trade?!? Talk about fantasy fallout!!! For the record, the trade was 3B/OF Aubrey Huff for SS Ben Zobrist and RHP Mitch Talbot. Now here's the fallout...let's start in Houston where Huff is expected to supplant Morgan Ensberg as the team's primary third baseman. Huff's value shoots up in NL-only leagues while Ensberg owners are getting a one way ticket to Shitsville. To make room for Huff the Astros sent OF Jason Lane to the minors. Lane, who was surging as of late, got off to a slow start and was being outplayed by both Willy Taveras and Chris Burke, both of whom retain their current value as they get to platoon in the outfield. However, one of them could be in trouble if Ensberg gets hot and Huff gets pushed to the outfield.
Now how about in Tampa? Well, for one thing, Zobrist and Talbot will do nothing for the big club this year, so don't worry about them just yet. Now, Ty Wigginton....there's another story. He should immediately become the Rays' starting third baseman; but wait a minute...hold on there...reports from Tampa say that B.J. Upton will be moved over to third base in Triple-A and will be called up to be the primary thrid sacker for the final 2 months of the season. Wow!!! Stolen base potential? HUGE!!! What else does all this mean? It means say hello to Travis Lee again. With Wiggy out of the way playing third, Lee comes back as the team's primary first baseman. He really needs to show he can hit or else he'll find himself back on the bench when Upton is brought up.

Second half officially begins tomorrow...

Let's see if I can help you get into the money this year...

Catch you next time...
