What's the Buzz? 7/7/06
Just gettin right to it tonight...
The Royals put backup catcher Paul Bako on the DL with a partially torn right oblique muscle. He wasn't really seeing much time or doing a whole hell of a lot, so I guess if this impacts you, your team sucks. Some dude named Paul Phillips was called up to back up John Buck, but I don't recommend using him.
Reds manager Jerry Narron has beacked up GM Wayne Krivsky saying that Eddie Guardado is the team's new closer. Todd Coffey will return to set-up duty. Good job if you stashed him away for a rainy day. It's pouring out there.
Apparently Braves starter Horacio Ramirez' disgusting 1 inning with 7 earned runs pitching line wasn't caused by him just sucking, it was some hamstrin gtightness....like the kind that put him on the DL earlier this year. This guy just can't catch a break, although they are saying he will make his next start.
Mets SS Jose Reyes will be sidelined this weekend after taking 7 stiches to close a cut on his pinkie. He'll be back stealing bases for you after the All Star Break....no need to worry.
Dodgers OF Kenny Lofton left tonight's game with a hamstring injury. We'll know more over the next few days, but if he does need to go on the DL, Matt Kemp would be the beneficiary of playing time.
Well, he's finally out of the hospital...Blue Jays OF Alex Rios was finally released from the hospital where he was being treated for a staph infection in his leg. He should be ready to go after the Break.
So the Orioles are done with Luis Matos. They put him on waivers with the intention of giving him his unconditional release. A shame that he's fallen off so much. Maybe playing in the WBC hurt him. No Spring Training with the team and they gave his job away to someone that never let go. Maybe he'll pick up somewhere else, but as of right now, he has no value.
The Phillies got back Jon Lieber today and he did o.k. going 7 innings with just 2 earned runs against the Pirates. He's got some pretty favorable matchups after the Break, so he could have some decent value soon.
It's official...Eric Gagne will have season ending back surgery to fix his herniated discs. Drop him now...he's done. Takashi Saito will remain the Dodgers' closer for the season.
The Cardinals designated Sidney Ponson for assignment to make room for newly acquired Jeff Weaver on the roster. We all knew the Cards preferred Jason Marquis and Jeff Suppan despite worse numbers, so this isn't too unexpected. If he floundered with St. Louis, I think he'll be hard pressed to find a new team. See ya!!!
And finally, it was just a matter of time before a new Jhonny Peralta slump pushed him back to the 7 hole in the order...major disappointment to some people, but I saw this coming from miles away. Maybe not this bad, but I saw it coming.
That's all I've got in me today...
Catch you next time...
