What's the Buzz? 4/23/06

It's not that serious, but A's closer Huston Street remains sidelined with a chest injury, probably until next weekend. The A's have an off day on Thursday, so he should be back shortly thereafter. Justin Duchscherer will rack up any save opportunities until then.
Suspensions will probably come soon as we had more spill-off from the Jose Mesa/Omar Vizquel situation...today, Matt Morris was thrown out of the game after hitting Matt Holliday in the first inning today. Giants manager Felipe Alou and pitching coach Dave Righetti were both ejected as well. This comes from more of last night's shennanigans and the 3 or 4 year ongoing fued when Vizquel, in his book, called Mesa a "choker". This is just the kind of crap Bud Selig loves to get involved in, so we'll see what happens.
So we learned Eric Milton was hurt yesterday and today we find out that he is going to have knee surgery to get the whole thing cleaned out. They say 4 to 6 weeks, but even so, you might want to avoid him all year long.
The Padres activated OF Mike Cameron from the disabled list today. Give him a few games to get back into the swing of things, but he could become a valuable asset later on down the road.
Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon picked up his league leading 9th save today and hasn't allowed a run at all this season (11 1/3 innings). If you haven't said your good-byes to Keith Foulke, do so now.....he's middle relief from here on in...officially.
Today, while sitting out the game, Barry Bonds alerted the media to his swollen knee. He says that has been his problem this season; it has nothing to do with his steroid situation. It's just an age thing. I guess Barry doesn't know that steroids deteriorate your body over time. Yes he's getting older, but it's not just normal wear and tear. See Lyle Alzado.
If you're still using Esteban Loaiza, stop. Back spasms? 3 runs in 3 1/3 innings? Keep him on the bench until he can string together even just back to back decent outings. Yeesh.
Giants 2B Ray Durham could be out for most of this week, if not all of it. He is being called day to day with a strained hamstring. Jose Vizcaino will get the at bats as a fill in.
Todd Jones picked up his first save for the Tigers since coming back from the DL. He was supposed to lay low for a bit in middle relief, but he's right back at it. Don't necessarily release Fernando Rodney. He could be useful for WHIP and ERA help and you never know if Jones will stay healthy all year.
Greg Maddux 4-0 0.99 ERA Father Time got nothing on this guy!!!

Catch you next time...
