What's the Buzz? 4/16/06

Seems like some injuries are piling up again...

A CT scan on 2B Jeff Kent revealed a slight concussion after he got beaned by Brad Hennessey in tonight's game. He is considered day to day, but you might want to use an alternative for the beginning of the week if you can make daily moves.
Angels' DH Tim Salmon had groin problems today and is also considered day to day. This actually benefits Juan Rivera owners as, with Garrett Anderson back, Rivera and Salmon were sharing time.
Also, Angels' closer Francisco Rodriguez is another day to day guy as he was removed from todays' game with a hamstring cramp.. Everyone thought it was worse, but it just looks like he needs a few days off to rest it. Scot Shields will fill in if the Angels need a closer over the next few days.
The Pirates placed catcher Ryan Doumit on the DL with a strained hamstring. Humberto Cota will see the majority of playing time along with newly recalled Ronny Paulino.
The Royals placed pitcher Denny Bautista on the DL with a problem with his pectoral muscle.
And the Braves are debating whether or no tto put SS Edgar Renteria on the DL for his ribs. They're going to give it another day or two before deciding.

In other news...

While Dan Miceli remains the closer of choice in Tampa, the Rays called up Chad Orvella from AAA today. Orvella was once considered the future closer of the team, so he might be worth considering if Miceli falters.
The platoon in RF for the Twins has been trimmed to just 2 as Jason Kubel was sent back to the minors. Michael Cuddyer and Lew Ford have both played well enough for Ron Gardenhire to leave it to them. Problem isn't RF though....maybe they should take a look at their DH. Rondell White has looked awful at the plate and has been a major disappointment thus far.
Marlins' RP Matt Herges made a strong argument for being taken out of consideration for saves. One day after manager Joe Girardi said both Herges and Joe Borowski would share closing duties, Herges blew the save and took the loss allowing 3 runs in the top of the ninth today.
Albert Pujols flexed his muscles today going 3-4 with 3 HR today. Yep...3 HR. What more can you say? He's a stud...wish I had him on even one of my fantasy teams. Incidentally, Pujols 3 dingers ties him for the major league lead with Tigers' 1B Chris Shelton who also hit his 8th today.
And finally, White Sox DH Jim Thome extended his on base/runs scored streak to 12 games today with his 7th HR of the season.

Catch you next time...
