What's the Buzz? 4/18/06

So it looks like the Giants will be bringing closer Armando Benitez back slowly. Not to throw him in the fire immediately, Benitez will probably work out of the pen as a set-up guy for Tim Worrell. This helps a lot of people that used Worrell as a fill in. It gives you a little more time with him while another closer candidate hopefully emerges. I said "emerges" not Matt Herges; he's gonna stink for the Marlins.
Contrary to yesterday's report, the A's will not be moving Esteban Loaiza to the bullpen. Apparently he is making too much money for just relief work, according to manager Ken Macha. Loaiza still remains a very risky pick so look elsewhere if you need another starter.
Anyon esee the ctahces Johnny Damon made out in centerfield tonight? Grab after grab, hitting wall after wall. He was a champ out there tonight. Wish I could say the same thing about Randy Johnson.
The Termell Sledge experiment has com eto an end in San Diego. The Padres finally learned what we all knew anyway -- no stick whatsoever. He'll sit in AAA until the next rash of injuries.
Twins DH Rondell White was moved from the cleanup spot to the 7 hole today. Let the plummetting begin...
The Rangers get some bad news as Mark DeRosa is headed to the disabled list. D'Angelo Jimenez will remain the starting 2B and Brad Whifferson gets to stay in the lineup. Add DeRosa's name to a long list of injured Rangers that includes Ian Kinsler and Kevin Mench. They need to stay healthy if they want to compete this year.
If you own Manny Ramirez, get ready. He is showing blatant signs that his stroke is coming back. This is going to be a lot of HRs and RBI coming up.
Braves 2B Marcus Giles sprained his middle finger on his left hand tonight. He's considered day to day so if you make daily moves, you might need to sit him for a few days.
Give it up for the Florida middle infield!! Dan Uggla and Hanley Ramirez, a combined 6 for 12 with 3 HR 4 runs scored and 6 RBI. Uggla still needs to bring up that average but these two could be fun to watch this season.
And hey look at that...someone woke up Brad Whifferson tonight...1-3 with a HR so far in the 8th...bet he follows it up tomorrow doing a golden sombrero fashion show.

Catch you next time...
