What's the Buzz? 4/19/06

So Curt Schilling is back. Officially. If you own him, congratulations. Your shot paid off. If not, don't even think about it. You can't even trade for him right now as his value is extremely high.
The MRI on Bartolo Colon came back reporting no new tears. He has experienced swelling from the scarring of a previous strain, but that is all. He is eligible to return from the DL on May 1st and the Angels feel he will only miss two starts.
It's as if the Gods of Baseball just want to pick a fight with me. They won't win. I will not endorse Corey Patterson no matter how many Orioles go on the DL. One day after the publishing of another Patterson bashing, Luis Matos joins the walking wounded as he went on the DL with a sore shoulder. They say Patterson and Jeff Conine will get the majority of playing time. Please...let it be Conine.
The only reason this warrants mentioning is because years ago, regretfully, I was pretty high on this guy -- OF Jody Gerut will undergo his 148th knee operation. Just a shame. Let it go Jody. Go get a job selling Xerox copiers or something...
The Mets, who apparently can beat everyone except the Braves, have swapped out second baseman. Kaz Matsui comes off the DL while Anderson Hernandez goes on. Matsui might be worth a look in mixed leagues that require more than 1 second baseman, but don't expect too much from him.
It didn't take long for the real Tony Womack to show up did it? He's started one game in the last 6. Ryan Freel owners can rest easy when Ken Griffey, Jr. returns and Brandon Phillips probably becomes the bench guy.
Angels closer, Francisco Rodriguez, blew the save tonight giving up 2 hits and two walks before getting out of the inning. No one is saying whether or not there are lingering problems with his hamstring so we'll just have to wait until his next appearance.
And speaking of closers, Todd Jones should be back over the weekend. But don't just throw Fernando Rodney away. He will still be a great set up guy, and hey...Jones is like 86 years old, so you never know.

That's all I've got for you today...

Catch you next time...
