What's the Buzz? 4/20/06

First, a moment of silence for Yankees minor league manager Oscar Acosta and team official Humberto Trejo. Both were killed on Wednesday in a car acident in the Dominican Republic.

and now, more bad news...

First real big injury today. Cubs 1B Derrek Lee has 2 broken bones in his wrist after a collision with Dodgers SS Rafael Furcal. This is not something they needed in Chicago, especially after all of their pitching injuries. Look for the Cubbies to make a trade as the most likely possibility is for Todd Walker to move over to first and have Neifi Perez and Jerry Hairston, Jr. take over at second. Another possibility is bringing up either Brandon Sing, Michael Restovich or Ryan Theriot from the minors. Sing looks to be the most likely of the trio to get called.
For Coco Crisp owners, it looks like you'll be without him for another 3 weeks. The Red Sox outfielder was fitted for a new splint today and has resumed some baseball activities. It still keeps him on schedule for the 6-8 weeks we originally thought.
Mets OF Calros Beltran left today's game after what seems to be an aggravation of his previous hamstring injury. No word yet on what it was, so consider him day to day.
So Kevin Mench has solved his toe problems by deciding to wear a shoe that's 1/2 size bigger than what he usually wears. Genius. I hope his baseball schedule doesn't interfere with his MENSA meetings.
Even though he was diagnosed with a sprained ligament in his finger, Marcus Giles is still considered day to day. The Braves think he may be able to play through it.

On the flip side here, closers Armando Benitez and Todd Jones were both activated from the DL today. It also looks like K-Rod is fine after recording another save today.

Very short slate of games today and not a whole lot of news...congrats to the winners and sorry to the losers.

A very happy 4/20 to you all!

Catch you next time...
