Support Your Local Minor League Teams!!!
With the New York Yankees out of town in Baltimore this weekend, I decided to get my baseball fix on Saturday with a little Low Single-A ball as the Staten Island Yankees hosted the Lowell Spinners, the Red Sox Single-A team.
What a game, what a time! With the exception of playoff/World Series games, and some of the heated rivalry games I've been to, this had to be one of the most fun experiences I have had at a ballpark. For an $11 ticket I sat next to the dugout, chatted with players and watched as the kids around me reaped the benefits of stadium giveaways and events between every inning. That 10 year old kid who won the Babe Ruth look-a-like contest had a smile that even the Kool-Aid guy would be envious of. All in all it was a great time and the Yankees beat the Spinners in the bottom of ninth with an RBI single by OF Seth Fortenberry.
And if you want to throw a little fantasy spin on it, then what better way to scout some of the young up and comers than to watch them play at the lower levels.
So go out and watch some baseball. Support your teams and have fun. Before you know it, the MLB playoffs will come and go and you'll be forced to sit through another cold winter wishing that the NFL and fantasy football was as much fun as your summer was.
If you have a good minor league story, I'd love to hear it. You can either post a comment below or email me at hbender26@yahoo.com.
