What's the Buzz? 5/16/06

If he's not careful, Braves OF Ryan Langerhans could start losing even more playing time to upstart Matt Diaz. Langerhans is only hitting .269 with 2 HR 12 RBI with zero steals, while Diaz, who hit his first home run tonight, is hitting .365 playing only against lefties.
Marlins' SS Hanley Ramirez is being considered day to day with a shoulder strain. It's nothing serious, so look for him to continue his potential ROY bid after a day or two off.
Brian Roberts will probably be activated on Friday after playing a rehab game in AA-Bowie on Wednsesday.
Dodgers 2B Jeff Kent is being considered day to day after leaving today's game with a back injury, as is OF Kenny Lofton who also left today's game with a hamstring problem. Both should need a day or two off, but I don't think anyone is headed to the DL.
Red Sox starter Curt Schilling may have gotten the win tonight but once again served up the long ball too much -- 3 in 5+ innings against the Orioles.
Ambiorix Burgos continues to blow save after save for the Royals as he blew his third in the row tonight giving up 2 runs in 1/3 innings. I expected this to happen, but I thought maybe Andy Sisco would be the guy to fill in. Unfortunately, he's been just as bad. Burgos should continue in the job, but maybe Joel Peralta gets a chance here and there.
Word out of Milwaukee is that Ben Sheets could be out for another 4 weeks with his shoulder problems. Can't say we didn't see this coming...
The Rangers are starting to lean towards putting Francisco Cordero back into the closer's role soon. They are sticking with Akinori Otsuka, but maybe tonight's blown save against the Yankees will expedite the situation.
While Rangers 2B Ian Kinsler is 2 for 17 in his rehab assignment, there is speculation that he won't be activated this weekend and could spend a few more weeks in the minors.
If Cardinals pitcher Anthony Reyes is still available in your league, you might want to pick him up. He was skipped in the AAA-Memphis rotation to allow him to be on schedule for a possible start Saturday.
Brewers SS J.J. Hardy left tonights game after spraining his ankle after a sliding collision at home plate. He will have an MRI on Wednesday, and a DL stint may be on the horizon.
Marlins manager Joe Girardi said that a "best case scenario" for OF Jermey Hermida is a Friday return. You may have him for the weekend, but you're probably going to have to wait until early next week. They want him to get his stroke back in a few AAA games.
Not such great news for the Devil Rays as OF Rocco Baldelli is still probably a month away and 2B Jorge Cantu probably won't be ready to return from a fractured foot until early June.
And finally, did someone say "blister" and Josh Beckett in the same sentence? He says it was just a routine check, but the rest of us know the possibility here. Brace yourself.

Catch you next time...
