What's the Buzz? 3/19/06

So let's just do a quick round up here as it was one of those business as usual days...here's a few of the important notes...
White Sox DH Jim Thome hurt his left hammy running out a double to day. Day to day status, but we all know what happens when you come back from this too soon.
The Cubs have held out 1B Derrek Lee following his return from the WBC. They say they're just being cautious here. Lee still remains a valuable commodity at first, but don't expect the same power as last year. A banged up shoulder and just the improbability of repeating those stats should be taken into consideration when choosing him for your draft.
Apparently the injury to Dodgers' catcher Dioner Navarro is not as serious as thought. Manager Grady Little said he will be the starter for Opening Day.
2B Rickie Weekes is slow to return from his strained oblique. I still like him for the year he will have, but "slow to recover" is never good.
Hmmm.....OF Juan Gonzalez has signed with the Red Sox and is looking to make the team as a bench guy. Not even worth that random dollar you have left in the end of the draft. Don't do it.
Yankees pitcher Al Leiter has retired. Good job Al. You were better in the booth than on the mound these past few years. Time to let it go, bud.
Royals closer Mike MacDougal has a strained terres major muscle under his right shoulder. He will be out for atlest 6 weeks. Ambiorex Burgos has been given the role in the meantime, but look for him to explode like last year and have Andy Sisco take over.
OF Corey Patterson is in the midst of a 3-23 slump. They still say the job is his, but I haven't heard them talking about a Luis Matos trade in the past few days.
In his first game back since being beaned by Curt Schilling 8 days ago, "super-sleeper" OF Chris Duffy went 1-4 with 3 strikeouts.
Phillies 2B Chase Utley is back to smacking the ball around and will be highly sought after on draft day. If you can get him, do so.
And finally, Brewers' closer Derrick Turnbow has righted the ship.....good job. Hell be worth a middle round pick as he goes on to save 35 for the Brew Crew this year.

Catch you next time...
