What's the Buzz? 3/14/06

Well, good news for my friend Keith. According to reports in the Washington Post, Corey Patterson has the inside track on the starting CF job in Baltimore. It's a shame that Luis Matos could lose his starting job due to his participation in the WBC. I don't see him lasting as the starter but Keith differs and will be on him at the draft like a fat kid on cake.
Some good news for Keith goes hand in hand with bad news for my other friend, Roger, as the Cubs announced that Mark Prior will have his shoulder examined by Dr. Lewis Yocum. Posterior rotator cuff irritation is what it's being called, but bottom line is, this can't be good for fantasy owners.
You knew it was bound to happen and you knew it had to be to me...Johnny Damon has an injured left shoulder that may keep him out of action for the remainder of the tournament. He says it's not serious, but so would I if i had to go back to Steinbrenner with this.
Joining Damon on the casualty list is Derek Lee who spent the day with the aforementioned Dr. Yocum. He apparnetly bruised it during the WBC but test results are not in yet.
Orioles 2B Brian Roberts is still progressing nicely as he looks to return Tuesday for his first full game action. His injury will allow him to cost a little less this year, but his numbers will also.
The Devil Rays outfield is still jammed up which means that you will probably have to wait until mid season to see Delmon Young. He'll start the year in AAA and still sits behind Joey Gathright on the depth chart.
Nationals starter Livan Hernandez is making his way back from knee surgery and appears to be in line for another Opening Day start. He's a good guy to have as your 4th or 5th starter....he'll pitch fairly well an eat up a lot of innings. Definitely known as a hot starter and will help you even more when you trade him before his second half decline.
Brett Myers is still looking a little shaky this spring which is great. A mediocre spring will be just the thing you need to steal him at the draft. His strikeout numbers will be great and he should have another great year.
I'm loving the Spring Home Run Derby as Edwin Encarnacion hit his 6th so far to put him just 2 behind Ryan Howard who smacked his 8th today against the Twins. Encarnacion is not really a power guy, but the third base job in Cincy should be his and he should have a great season. Howard on the other hand is indeed...a power guy.

in the WBC.....

Japan smacked the crap out of Mexico 6-1...probably, in some bizarro way, helping the U.S. move closer to the next round.
The Dominican Republic defeated Venezuela 2-1 in a tremendous pitching duel. Duaner Sanchez made it interesting with a couple of 9th inning walks but escaped in the end. Anyone see those Dominicans run out in celebration? How about how heartbroken the Venzuelans looked? It was like the end of the World Series. These guys are playing with pride here. The U.S. shouldn't advance here as they seem to be just going through the motions. What do you think....Korea vs. Dominican Republic? Sounds about right...

Catch you next time...
