What's the Buzz? 9/28/06

Sorry again for yesterday...

Since we're at that point right now where even the daily updates of who's doing what and who will play when are sort of pointless. You've got what you've got. Nothing left for you to do. If you're still making a daily pickup, well God bless you. Hope you're brain isn't too fried. Let me guess...you're also 0-3 in football? Micro-managing is rough on the brain.

So in the meantime, I'll go through some news, but just general thoughts and ramblings rather than what kind of fantasy impact it has.

So here we go...

I'll start it off with what's on every New Yorker's mind right now. Pedro Martinez. Done for the entire post-season with a torn tendon in his calf. Sorry Mets fans. Now I know that I've dogged you guys in the past, but not here. Never for this. This is very unfortunate and you really don't wish it on any baseball team. The road to the World Series is tough enough as it is. I wish you all the luck in the world for the playoffs.
Now really...what kind of a joke was that Dodgers/Rockies game? James Loney with the game of his life tonight with 2 HR (one a grand slam) and 9 RBI. 16 total pitchers used and it looks like everyone who started got a hit. This was like old school Coors Field tonight.
Nice. A franchise record for Francisco Rodriguez with his 46th save tonight. They keep lining 'em up, he keeps knockin' 'em down. 95 strikouts in 71 innings. So good.
Seriously. Are the Cardinals going to blow this??? They lose, Houston wins and BAM!!! The lead is only 1/2 game. If Houston pulls this one out they could do some serious damage. Oswalt, Pettitte and Clemens in a 5 game series??? I'm loving this NL battle right now. Throw in the Dodgers and some possibilities of a Monday playoff game. Crazy!! Every game counts right down to the end.
The AL's doing it too with this battle between Minnesota and Detroit. Detroit's pulling a St. Louis and now it's all tied up after tonight. The Tigers get a 3 game series against the Royals while the Twins face off against the downtrodden defending champs, the White Sox. Who gets to be the big spoiler and send someone off to play the Yankees in the opening round?
Which mind you doesn't look so bad right now, does it? I mean c'mon...if a guy that walks in with a 5.05 ERA and has almost as many walks as he does K's can one hit the Yankees, well then I guess anyone can right? Daniel Cabrera!!! Dammit all to hell if you weren't one of the most frustrating guys this whole year. So much potential and just so inconsistent. Congrats on your performance tonight. I'll be looking for you at the draft next year.
In case you missed it, Mike Jacobs is done for the year. He's leaving the team for personal reasons and there were no details as to why. We wish nothing but the best for him and his family.
I'm sure I can speak for everyone who writes for this blog that our thoughts are with Buddy Bell and his family right now. The growth on his tonsils was found to be cancerous. Apparently, though, it can be removed cleanly and should enable a full recovery.
Wow. A 191 strikeouts for Adam Dunn this year. 4 shy of his own record. I wonder how many fantasy owners he's pissing off this past month. I'd say it was unreal, but the fact that it's already his record...

And lastly...

Joe Mauer, Derek Jeter and Robinson Cano. Good luck boys!! Batting title coming. They're coming down the home stretch...

Thanks for reading.

Catch you next time...
