What's the Buzz? 9/26/06
Some banged up players, pitchers missing starts, whatever screws you over the most...check it out here: Brian Giles (leg -- could miss a game or two), Hayden Penn (back -- was already done for the season after today anyway), Adam LaRoche (hamstring -- should be back on Wednesday), Chipper Jones (foot -- may miss another game), Randy Johnson (back -- missing rest of season to rest for the playoffs), Mark Kotsay (groin -- may be back on Wednesday, depending on whether or not the A's clinch), Marcus Thames (flu -- should be back Wednesday), Kenjii Jojihima (back -- may miss one more game), Ryan Shealy (hives -- should be back on Wednesday), Jason Giambi (wrist -- may return Wednesday), Magglio Ordonez (back -- may miss another game or two), Justin Verlander (arm -- being rested until the playoffs, so done for the season), Aramis Ramirez (quad -- should miss only a game or two), Manny Ramirez (knee -- may return on Wednesday, outlook still not so good), and Paul Konerko (back -- may be in and out of the lineup the rest of the way...possibly more out than in).
In other news...
Congrats to Natiionals rookie 3B Ryan Zimmerman whose 3 RBI night tonight put him over 100 for the season makin ghim just the third NL rookie to do so in the last 50 years. The other too are Mike Piazza and Albert Pujols. It's a shame he has to lose the Rookie of the Year award to Dan Uggla.
Career high in RBI tonight for Indians 1B Ryan Garko. 3 hits tonight, 5 RBI...including a 3 run bomb in the 5th inning. He'll be a highly coveted youngster in next year's draft as he should be the Tribe full time first baseman.
Rumors out of San Diego and Minnesota have David Wells starting on Sunday and Brad Radke starting on Thursday. Radke's coming back from a shoulder injury and I don't recommend him. Wells? They say Sunday, but who knows with this guy. I wouldn't rely on him.
And finally, congrats to Andruw Jones. Everyone knew he wasn't going to hit over 50 HR again, but he did hit his 40th of the season tonight and became the only Atlanta Braves player in history to record atleast 40 HR in back to back seasons. Two players did it back when they were in Milwaukee; Hank Aaron in 1962 and '63 and Eddie Matthews did it back to back to back from 1953-55.
