What's the Buzz? 5/28/06

So is the monkey off Barry Bonds' back? He passed Babe Ruth today with his 715th HR off of good ol' Byung Hyun Kim. The only thing left is 40 more til Hank Aaron. If you were thinking about taking a chance on him, now would be the time to trade for him. His power numbers should start to pick up.
Can you believe it took until the 28th of May for pre-season ROY favorite Jeremy Hermida to hit his first home run of the season? If someone in your league dropped him out of frustration, you might want to think about picking him up.
The Padres activated catcher Rob Bowen from the 15 day DL. With Josh Bard playing well, and Mike Piazza still around, there may not be much room for Bowen anymore.
It could only go on for so long, but it's finally done. Kaz Matsui is no longer the starting 2B for the Mets. He could be the worst Japanese baseball player this side of Hideki Irabu. (Where is the fat toad anyway?) Jose Valentin and Chris Woodward will platoon for now, and Anderson Hernandez could come back into the mix as well.
The Rockies place infielder Luis Gonzalez on the 15 day DL with inflammation in his wrist. Jamey Carroll and Jason Smith will get to split the time.
While the Red Sox lost both Mike Timlin (shoulder) and Wily Mo Pena (wrist) to the 15 day DL, they activated OF Coco Crisp a day early and called up Manny Delcarmen. While this is actually an improvement on offense, the Boston bullpen will suffer. Jonathan Papelbon and Keith Foulke are already overworked and Julian Tavarez will undoubtedly suffer from some sort of meltdown. Crisp, by the way, went 1 for 5 with a run scored and an RBI in his return. It would be wise to get him in your lineup as quickly as possible.
Cole Hamels had a solid bullpen session and is scheduled for a rehab start around Wednesday. He could be back to start one of the games in the June 5th-7th series against Arizona.
A's starter Rich Harden threw 65 pitches in a simulated game and is expected to have his first rehab start sometime this week in Single A ball. No word on when they expect him back in the majors just yet. The same news can be applied to Angels starter Bartolo Colon. He seems to be on the same pace; maybe a rehab start next week.
Rumors out of Kansas City have OF David DeJesus being activated on Monday from the DL. We'll see how long this lasts...
The Rockies will not be activating catcher Yorvit Torrealba on Monday as previously thought. Apparently there is, in a fact, a bigger wuss out there than DeJesus.

That's about it for today...

Happy Memorial Day....enjoy your barbecue.

Catch you next time...
