What's the Buzz? 7/27/06

It's like the calm before the storm, right? You know things are brewin', people are talkin', trade offers being made...lots going on behind the scenes right now. But for today...all's quiet on the homefront. It was a relatively quiet day today and a short slate of games.

But here's a few things you still should know...

While filling in for the injured Omar Vizquel, Giants shortstop Jose Vizcaino was forced from today's game after injuring his shoulder diving for a ball. He's having an MRI done on Friday morning so it appears to be somewhat serious. A DL stint is a possibility. And benefitting from all this is Kevin Frandsen. He'll fill in at short for now as the team waits on Vizquel's foot.
The results on Jose Vidro's MRI showed that he has a strained hamstring and he will be sidelined for 2 or 3 weeks. Nothing seems to be going right for the Nationals. They pull off an amazing trade with the Reds and then it's all Crap City from then on. Marlon Anderson could get the majority of at bats in the meantime. He's a pretty streaky guy, so he could either kill you or give you a quick little boost. Give it a few games before you really even start to think about it.
And lastly, it looks like Robinson Cano could begin his rehab assignment at the beginning of next week after showing today that he can run the bases. If he starts up soon, he could be back in the majors by the end of next week.

I feel a huge flurry of trades ahead.

4 days and counting.

Catch you next time...
